TWLL #25: How To Lead Worship After A Stressful Soundcheck
Oct 19, 2023read time: 2 minutes
________________
It can be HARD to transition into your worship set after a stressful soundcheck.
Frazzled nerves, scattered thoughts…worries about having sound issues pop up during the set, or worries about the existing sound issues that didn’t fully get worked out in the soundcheck…it’s a lot.
So how do you deal with it? And how do you step into worship after such a rough warm up?
Here are a few things to help you move into the set from a place of peace…
Slow Down And Acknowledge How You’re Feeling
First, try to slow down that mental and emotional swirl. Try to find a quiet spot backstage where you can literally just sit there and dial down internally.
If time allows, sit there even for just a minute, so you can get quiet inside. (This is where sitting in silence with Jesus offstage during the week helps us. More about this here).
Then acknowledge how you’re feeling before Jesus. Even if you can find just one word to describe it- this will help you connect your heart and your head, and allow you to be more transparent with Jesus.
Remember What You’re Doing
Once you feel more quiet and connected inside, remember the essence of what you’re doing when you worship.
Remember that more than the sound, the stage, or even the room, this worship set is about stepping into a living moment with Jesus.
Remember that you have a chance to see Him, hear Him, and respond to Him with worship.
And that though you’re leading a room of people, you’re primarily reaching to connect with Jesus, so that you have a sacred space to invite the room into.
Look Up And Respond
Then, as you walk back onto the stage and get behind your mic/instrument, take a moment to look up.
Take the eyes of your heart, and picture Jesus. Picture Him in that throne room, sitting next to His Father (Psalm 110).
Picture the One Who made all things, but emptied Himself to death on a cross, and now is seated at the right hand of the Ancient of Days.
Picture that Man, lift your voice, and then sing to Him.
That’s all for today.
See y’all next week.
