I'm Jon Thurlow.

And I’ve spent about 10,000 hours over the last 20 years leading worship for churches, prayer ministries, and events all over the globe.  Along the way, I've been privileged to lead or co-write with artists and worship leaders from Bethel Music, Maverick City, UpperRoom, IHOPKC, Housefires, and other worship ministries.

And I know what it’s like to want to take the room to a deeper place with Jesus- but feel stuck in a swirl of doubt, comparison, people-pleasing, and shame.  I’ve struggled with thoughts like, “I don’t have as good a voice as that worship leader.”  Or, “That person is SO gifted and popular!  If I can get them to notice me, then I’ll feel better about myself as a worship leader.”  Or, “My life is such a mess...I don’t deserve to be worship leading right now.”  

But over the years, through my own personal struggles, my journey with Jesus, a lot of onstage experience, and ultimately the grace of God- I discovered a path forward.  I found a way to face the issues, overcome them, and take my heart, my team, and the room DEEPER in worship. 

By developing my conversation and connection with Jesus offstage and onstage, I’ve been able to...

• Find an answer for my internal traffic and identity struggles as a worship leader
• Recognize and sense what the Lord might want to highlight in a worship set
• Confidently step into the moment and lead with clarity.
• Help my band and singers jump in with me, and then bring the room into that same space- so we’re all worshipping together.

More recently I’ve been able to share what I've discovered with over a hundred students, through my worship training!

THE VERTICAL WORSHIP LEADER COURSE IS YOUR FIRST STEP IN MAKING THIS YOUR REALITY!

In This 5-Phase Course, I Cover: 

Phase 1 - JESUS

Laying the foundation of a biblical theology of worship from the Old and New Testament Scriptures.  Emphasis is placed on knowing the storyline of Jesus- from Genesis to Revelation.

Phase 2 - YOU

Knowing your own heart at a deeper level, with the goal of offering more vulnerable and authentic worship to Jesus.

Phase 3 - Developing Your Conversation With Jesus

Key spiritual disciplines are introduced, to help you develop your conversation with Jesus offstage.  Then learn to access that connection while leading, and bring your team and the room with you.  In this phase you also learn to initiate and lead spontaneous worship moments with confidence. 

Phase 4 - Skill Development 

Learn the language of music, including chords, inversions, and the Nashville number system.  Basic ear-training and rhythm training are included in this phase.  Vocal skills and keyboard skills worship are taught as well.

Phase 5 - Leading Your Team

 Learn the practical aspects of leading worship with a band and singers, like creating a set list, how to lead band and singer practices, and think like a producer.  Learn how to communicate musically with your individual band members, and get familiar with how a sound system works.  Understand the pastoral elements in leading a worship team.

Three Learning Paths

PATH 1 Weekly group zoom calls for 12 weeks, discussing specific aspects of worship leading, with plenty of time for detailed Q&A!  Also access over 40 training videos with study guides.  

PATH 2 (Mini-Zoom) Weekly group zoom calls for 4 weeks, with access to 12 training videos and study guides. 

SCHEDULE: Path 1 and 2 Zoom Groups begin the week of September 12th, with Path 1 ending the week of December 5th, and Path 2 ending the week of October 3rd.  Once all students are registered we determine days and times for the zoom groups to meet that work best for everyone's schedules.

PATH 3 (Stand-Alone) Permanent access to the original 12 core training videos and study guides; allowing for freedom to work at your own pace and schedule.
